After applying gel, the practitioner moves the EXION Face applicator over the skin to deliver energy. You may feel warmth or heat in the treated area. The device monitors temperature and skin impedance. Your feedback is used alongside the device’s monitoring throughout the procedure. [1]
During your session
If you feel hot, or experience pain or discomfort, tell the practitioner immediately so they can stop and reassess before continuing. You do not need to endure discomfort to finish the session.
After treatment
Redness, swelling, dryness or a feeling of heat may occur after treatment. There is also a risk of blistering and burns. Ask your treating practitioner for aftercare instructions and contact details. Contact them for assessment if symptoms are unusual or become more severe. [1]

A study of abdominal skin in pigs involved 12 animals in total. The RF plus Targeted Ultrasound group included 6 pigs and received 4 treatments. MALDI–TOF measurements taken 2 months after completing treatment found a 224% increase in HA compared with baseline. This figure is not a percentage increase in facial hydration in patients. [3]

The preclinical pig study was supported by BTL Industries, and some authors were consultants to the company. [3]
HUMAN HISTOLOGY
Human histology study
A separate small human histology study included 7 participants: 3 received both energies, 3 received RF alone, and 1 received no treatment. The area staining positive for HA increased in the group receiving both energies. This was a tissue finding, not a percentage change in hydration or a visible facial result. [4]
