Important contraindications
Do not receive injections if you are allergic to any product ingredient, have had anaphylaxis, have a history of multiple severe allergies, or have a history of or susceptibility to keloids or abnormal raised scars. If lidocaine is added, people allergic to lidocaine or amide anaesthetics should not receive the injection either.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and age under 18
Safety and treatment outcome data are insufficient in these groups. Postpone elective aesthetic procedures and consult a doctor first.
When to postpone or seek an individual assessment
Postpone treatment if the injection area is inflamed or infected. People taking immunosuppressants, those with immune conditions, significant medical conditions or bleeding problems, and those who have had other substances injected need an individual medical assessment.[1]
Lips and the eye area
The US prescribing information cited here states that Sculptra should not be injected into the red part of the lips. Use around the eyes has not been studied, and nodules have been reported. The doctor must check the applicable label and site-specific risks before injection.[1]
