PROFHILO / SKIN QUALITY

01 — UNDERSTANDING PROFHILO

Why choose
Profhilo?

Good skin.
Thoughtful care.

If you want more hydrated skin while addressing early creasing and reduced elasticity, Profhilo offers an approach to these aspects of skin quality together.

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid, or HA, that combines two molecular weights using NAHYCO® technology. It addresses skin hydration, elasticity and laxity through the concept of Bioremodelling [1, 2]

A Biomodulator affects how skin cells function. With Profhilo, this includes HA’s water-binding properties and laboratory evidence of effects on cells that produce collagen and elastin. [12]

Reasons to consider Profhilo

01

Several aspects of skin quality

Improve hydration while addressing elasticity, texture and fine lines, for those who want to improve overall skin quality. [1, 2]

02

Evidence from human studies

A human study measured increased skin hydration and reduced water loss through the skin after Profhilo was given according to the study’s treatment schedule. [3]

03

Effects on skin cells

Profhilo’s HA formulation has been shown to stimulate collagen and elastin production in cells and skin models, helping to explain its role as a Biomodulator. [12]

02 — FINDING THE RIGHT APPROACH

How does it differ from fillers
and skin boosters?

Start with what you want to address. Restoring volume and improving skin quality have different goals.

Compare the main treatment goals
VOLUME & CONTOUR

Refine contours

SKIN QUALITY

Hydration and skin quality

Select a product to explore its formulation, goals and the concerns it addresses.

VOLUME & CONTOUR

HA filler

Restore volume and refine facial contours

Used to restore volume or define the shape of specific areas, such as the cheeks, chin or lips. The gel is selected to suit each area. [4]

Common concerns
Hollow-looking cheeks, a wish for more fullness, or changes to the shape of specific facial features.
Treatment goals
Fullness, support and contour in the area being treated.

HYDRATION & TEXTURE

HA skin booster

Hydration and skin quality

A group of injectable HA products focused on skin quality. Formulations differ, and some also have evidence relating to elasticity, smoothness and fine lines. [5]

Common concerns
Dehydrated skin, uneven texture or fine lines.
Treatment goals
Skin quality, according to each product’s properties and supporting evidence.

BIOMODULATOR & SKIN QUALITY

Profhilo®

A Biomodulator for skin quality

An HA product combining two molecular weights using NAHYCO® technology to address skin hydration, elasticity and laxity. [1, 2]

Common concerns
Skin on the face and neck that is becoming dry, creased or less elastic.
Treatment goals
Skin quality, considering hydration and laxity together.

Why is Profhilo sometimes
called a skin booster?

Skin booster describes a group of injectable treatments for skin quality, while Profhilo is a product name. Their goals overlap in several ways. The choice depends on each product’s formulation, gel properties, method of use and supporting evidence, considered in relation to your skin. [1, 5]

03 — WHERE WE FOCUS

Where can Profhilo
be used?

Skin quality care can focus on the areas that concern you: the neck, face and forehead. Your doctor assesses your skin and selects an approach suited to each area. [1, 10]

KNOW THE PRODUCT FAMILY

What about the hands
and body?

The Profhilo family includes different products developed for different treatment goals.

Profhilo Body
Studies have assessed the Body formulation for skin on the inner upper arms, abdomen, backs of the hands, décolletage and knees. [6, 7]
Profhilo Structura
Developed to address the facial fat layer, which is a different treatment goal. [8]

04 — THE SCIENCE, SIMPLIFIED

Two molecular weights.
One formulation.

Each 2 ml of Profhilo contains 32 mg of high-molecular-weight HA and 32 mg of low-molecular-weight HA, totalling 64 mg. NAHYCO® technology uses heat to bring the two molecular weights together in a stable form known as Hybrid Cooperative Complexes [1, 3]

HA binds water. Profhilo’s combination of two molecular weights also has evidence of effects on skin cells, which is why it is described as a Biomodulator [12]

Human study

Binds water for skin hydration

HA helps retain water in the skin, addressing dryness and dehydration. A human study of Profhilo found increased skin hydration when measured with instruments. [1, 3]

Read the study details

A study of Chinese women who received two Profhilo sessions, four weeks apart, found increased skin hydration at the 12-week follow-up. [3]

Human study

Less water loss through the skin

Hydration depends on both the water in the skin and the water that evaporates from it. A human study of Profhilo found reduced transepidermal water loss, or TEWL, after treatment. [3]

What does TEWL tell us about skin?

TEWL stands for Transepidermal Water Loss. It measures the water that evaporates through the skin. In the same study, participants received two Profhilo sessions, four weeks apart, and TEWL was lower at the 12-week follow-up. [3]

Cells and skin models

Stimulates collagen
and elastin production in laboratory studies

Collagen helps maintain skin structure, while elastin supports elasticity. Research in cells and skin models found that Profhilo’s HA formulation stimulated production of both proteins, helping to explain its role as a Biomodulator. [12]

05 — STARTING PROFHILO

06 — A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you begin,
get to know Profhilo

Answers to common questions
about Profhilo

Should I choose Profhilo, filler or a skin booster?

Start with your main concern. If you want to restore lost volume or refine contours, a filler suited to that area would be considered. Hydration, texture and elasticity are goals shared by Profhilo and HA skin boosters. The choice depends on each product’s properties and an assessment of your skin. [1, 4, 5]

See the comparison
Where can this Profhilo formulation be used?

Profhilo 64 mg/2 ml is used for skin on the face and neck, with additional studies on the forehead. Your doctor selects an approach suited to each area. Evidence for the backs of the hands and body relates to Profhilo Body, a separate product in the same family. [1, 6, 7, 10, 11]

Explore the treatment areas
What skin concerns is it suited to?

It may be considered for people who want to address dehydrated skin, reduced elasticity or laxity on the face and neck. A consultation helps clarify whether your main concern is skin quality, volume or facial structure, so the approach can be matched to your needs. [1, 2]

How many sessions do I need, and how far apart?

The manufacturer recommends an initial course of 2 sessions, 30 days apart. Your doctor considers the plan that suits your skin. Ongoing care is then assessed according to your response and individual needs. [1]

When are changes in the skin assessed?

Your skin is reviewed at intervals after treatment and again after the initial course. Clinical studies have assessed skin quality at several time points, such as weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16. Plan follow-up with your doctor around the changes you want to assess. [2]
