Understanding PN programmes
Before choosing a product

PN, or polynucleotide, is a molecular chain made up of nucleotide units. These injectable products use purified DNA fragments as components of a gel for skin quality. PN describes the ingredient group; it does not yet tell you which formulation suits which area, or what evidence supports it.

Examples available for consideration at BEHAP

ProgrammeManufacturer's informationWhat to consider when choosing
VITARAN programmeBR PHARM identifies HP VITARAN as a PN sodium product and describes its use for skin hydration, softness, elasticity and firmness.Check the version, concentration and treatment area. The VITARAN family includes several products, so the label of the actual injectable formulation needs to be reviewed.
PLINEST programmeMastelli describes PN-HPT gels for intradermal injection, with versions including PLINEST, PLINEST fast and PLINEST eye.The version name and treatment area matter. Details for one version should not be applied to every version.

What can PN help with, and what does the research establish?

Studies have examined wrinkles and skin characteristics. For example, a randomized periocular comparison in 27 people found improvements in some measures of skin roughness and pore volume on the PN side compared with the HA side. Overall aesthetic scores, however, did not differ significantly. The study used a different PN product and does not directly confirm the results of the VITARAN or PLINEST programmes. Read the study by Lee et al.

In practice, start with the concern and area, such as the skin around the eyes or overall skin quality, then check whether that product version has evidence relevant to the goal. Comparing products therefore requires more than the PN name on the box or a concentration figure alone.

Are PN and PDRN interchangeable?

Both names relate to nucleotide-based materials, but their names and study findings should not be used interchangeably. Products differ in composition and formulation properties. A benefit claim needs to specify what was studied, where it was injected and which product was used.

Choose the injectable first, then a compatible injection method

A PN programme is a product choice; the HYCOOX programme is a delivery choice. Considering them together requires checking the formulation's compatibility with the injection head and plan. It does not mean every PN version can be used with the device in the same way.
